Descriptions of Classes

6 Months to 3 Years (Parent-Child Classes)

These classes DO NOT teach infants to swim! Parents and children learn together to increase a child's comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills. All levels require a parent or other caregiver in the water.

Parent & Child Level 1 (PC1)
Provides experiences and activities for children

Parent & Child Level 2 (PC2)
Builds upon the skills learned in Level 1

4 and 5-year-olds (Preschool)
Children must be four years old before the beginning of the session that they register for – NO Exceptions! Preschool-age children are taught basic aquatic safety and swimming skills while increasing their comfort level in and around the water. As in all Swimming and Water Safety courses, your child will always know that it’s safety first.

Preschool Aquatics Level 1 (Pre1)
Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills.

Preschool Aquatics Level 2: (Pre2)
Helps children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around water.

Preschool Aquatics Level 3 (Pre3):
Helps children start to gain basic swimming propulsive skills to be comfortable in and around water.

Preschoolers who pass Preschool Aquatics Level 3 may register for Learn to Swim Level 2 with Aquatics Supervisor Approval. They do not need to take Learn to Swim Level 1.

6 years old and up (Learn to Swim)
Learn-to-Swim courses are based on a logical, six-level progression that helps swimmers of varying ages and abilities develop their water safety, survival, and swim skills.

Learn to Swim Level 1 (LTS1): Introduction to Water Skills
Help participants feel comfortable in the water.

Learn to Swim Level 2 (LTS2): Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Gives participants success with fundamental skills.

Learn to Swim Level 3(LTS3): Stroke Development
Builds on the skills in Level 2 through additional guided practice in deeper water.

Learn to Swim Level 4 (LTS4): Stroke Improvement
Develops confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills.

Learn to Swim Level 5 (LTS5): Stroke Refinement
Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.
