BEAR RIVER GREENWAY

Department Mission:

The Mission of the Better Environment and River Project (B.E.A.R. Project) is to develop the Bear River as a natural and cultural focal point of the community.

GREENWAY FEATURES BEAR PAW TRAILHEAD

Access to the Bear River for tubing and kayaking on the “Bear Paw” rapids. You can also access the Greenway’s main trail by crossing “Debbie’s Bridge”

BEAR COMMUNITY CENTER & PAVILION

Multi-purpose room, warming kitchen, and picnic shelter located along the Bear River Greenway overlooking the BEAR Ice Pond. Available to rent for private events.

BEAR MEADOWS

With approximately 6 acres of open space, this area is Evanston’s Central Park to meet the needs of various community groups.

BEAR Parkway Memorial Tree Grove“A Place to Be Remembered”

Memorialize a deceased loved one in the Memorial Tree Grove located adjacent to the BEAR Community Center, near the banks of Bear River.

ROTARY “HEALTH TRAIL”

A 14 station fitness course along the Bear River Greenway main trail from the entryway at Bear Meadows. available for the community use.

ROTARY “Bear Tales” FIRE CIRCLE

An amphitheater for community outdoor activities, group meetings, campfire programs, and special events. Fee: $20 per group

The B.E.A.R. Project Inc."Evanston's River Playground"

The greenway main trail extends over 2 miles along the banks of the Bear River, connecting Evanston’s historic downtown along a “Ribbon of Green”, to the Bear River State Park.
